Fear of Flying Course, Perth
Fly calmly again. A private, one-on-one course taught by an airline pilot with 30 years in the cockpit, finishing with a 45-minute flight in our Airbus A320 simulator. $900.
You're not alone
Fear of flying is one of the most common fears there is. It affects capable, rational people: executives, parents, frequent travellers who grit their teeth through every trip.
This course is for you if:
- You avoid flying altogether, or haven't flown in years
- You fly, but dread it for weeks beforehand
- Turbulence, noises or bumps send your mind racing
- You feel trapped once the doors close
- You've missed weddings, holidays or work opportunities because of it
None of this means something is wrong with you. Fear thrives on the unknown. Once you understand what's really happening on a flight, and have tools to manage your body's response, it loses its grip.
Meet your instructor
I'm Peter Collison. I've been an airline pilot for about 30 years, and today I fly the Embraer E190 jet out of Perth.
I know what happens on every flight because I'm the one flying it. I can tell you what that noise is, why the wings flex, what turbulence actually does to an aircraft, and what the crew is doing at every stage.
Every course is one-on-one. We go at your pace, focus on your specific triggers, and you can ask anything, however small it seems.
How it works
- Free chat. A 15-minute call to talk about your fear and what you want to achieve. No pressure to book.
- Your private session. A 4-hour one-on-one course at our Jandakot facility or online. We unpack how flying really works and what's behind your fear.
- Tools you keep. You learn practical techniques to calm your body and mind before and during a flight.
- Simulator flight. A 45-minute flight in our modern A320 simulator. Put it into practice with a pilot beside you.
- Ongoing support. Message me before your next trip if you need a confidence boost.
What you'll learn
- How aircraft fly, in plain English, and why they're built to handle far more than any normal flight throws at them
- Turbulence explained: what it is, why it's uncomfortable but not dangerous, and how pilots plan around it
- Every sound and sensation, from the thud after take-off to the engine note changing on descent
- Who's looking after you: pilot training, checks, maintenance and the layers of safety behind every flight
- Calming techniques for anxiety in the days before, at the airport and in your seat
- A plan for your next flight, built around your own triggers

Frequently asked questions
I haven't flown in years. Is it too late? No. Many people come to me after a decade or more without flying. The course is built for exactly that.
Do I have to fly in the simulator during the course? No. A flight in our brand-new, state-of-the-art Airbus A320 simulator is recommended but optional. You set the pace.
Is this therapy? No. I'm a pilot, not a psychologist. I give you the facts about flying and practical techniques to manage anxiety. If your fear is part of a wider anxiety condition, I'll suggest you also speak with your GP.
Why one-on-one instead of a group? Your fear is specific to you. Private sessions mean we spend the time on your triggers and questions, without feeling self-conscious.
I'm not in Perth. Can I still do it? We're based in Perth, but we can run sessions over Microsoft Teams for people in other locations.
What if I'm still nervous afterwards? Some nerves are normal, even for regular flyers. The goal is that fear no longer controls whether you fly. You can message me before your next trip.
Your next flight can be different.
